The peony, I think, is the real rose of the garden: its fragrance is even lovelier than any rose I’ve ever smelled, the buds and the blossoms are elegant and whimsical at the same time, and there are no pesty thorns. Then–there is this delightful thing about peonies: according to flower folklore, nymphs hide in their buds. How could we not have guessed?
